These are not new songs, rather, I am counting down my favorite songs with "new" in the title. We are at #6: "New Values" by Iggy Pop. According to Legs McNeil and Gillian McCain's book, Please Kill Me, both The MC5 and The Stooges (of which Iggy was vocalist) were essentially the first punk bands, which has earned Iggy Pop the nickname "The Godfather of Punk. He is, as a member of The Stooges, in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. "New Values" is the title track from Iggy's 1979 album. It was his first solo record that did not include participation from his good buddy, David Bowie. Although the album spawned two singles, "New Values" was not one of them. Yet it's good enough that Iggy performed it live on the BBC show, The Old Grey Whistle Test, as you will see from the attached video. It's pure Iggy Pop. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do! He did have an energetic stage performance. He did the same thing when I saw him open for the Pretenders.

@amadeo - I've seen them four times. A great show each time.

Wasn’t this about the time he was seeing how much heroin he could ingest? And he starts the song, “I’m healthy as a horse”? Oh, well, he and Keith (and Willie Nelson) will outlive us all.

Not quite sure I ever heard an Iggy Pop tune, it's an experience. I suspect in "modern" times he would be a rapper!

That would be a possibility. Iggy is larger than life. He can do what he wants!

I really like Iggy Pop, but I don't think I've hear this one before. My favorite song by him is Cry For Love off of his Blah album. For awhile, I would listen to it about 20 times a day. I guess because I was feeling down at the time. he really puts his soul out there for everyone and not many singers do this.
