An emotional roller coaster

Today has been a roller coaster of emotions. We got the call this morning that my daddy had been moved to ICU. He was struggling to breathe and his lungs were filling with fluid. When we got their his breathing was so labored. He could barely move or talk. He was completely yellow, especially his eyes. After a plethora of test they figured out that all of the iv's he was getting for other stuff had over loaded his system and because of the liver and kidney issues, his body could not pump out the fluid . Before the day was out, they were able to get that part stabalized. His ammonia is still high and his liver barely working. What started off as a grim morning turned hopeful by the end of the day. For that I am extremely thankful However, I am fearful that he is not getting the care he needs and deserves. His doctor never came around today. We got a lot of "I don't knows" from the hospital staff. This is considered and excellent hospital but that still did not give definitive answers. I can remember a time when doctors visited their patients (in the hospital) regularly. I remember when patients were treated as precious individuals instead of just a number. Is it just me or does it seem that healthcare has become a racket or apathetic institution rather than a means of true healing? We have the most advanced technology and numerous resources, so why does healthcare officials seem to be more clueless than knowledegable?

I am sorry to hear about your father, i hope his condition becomes better When i was hospitalized last year, i think i saw the doctor once a day, only for a few minutes. But my condition was not that serious so i understand. but this situation is different

Lucky they are not doing any experiments with him. You are right. In India, healthcare has become a lucrative market and there are some rackets operating for different health care problems. They are even some rackets functioning for organs of the human body.

OMG! That is horrible. Yes, I am so thankful that is not the case for my dad.

It is awful to have to deal with that. My dad had his kidney removed a couple of years ago, and had some of those issues, but I happy to say he recoved. I don't think his breathing was ever an issue.
