What a Way to Start the New Year

United States

Seems like 2018 is starting out just as rotten as 2017 was. My partner came home early from his part-time evening job (which he works in addition to his full-time day job) because his car "broke." He's not sure what's wrong with it, he said that it just started shaking while he was driving it and the check engine light kept flashing. He was able to drive it home but obviously something's wrong and he will need to have it towed into the shop. He knows nothing about cars so has no idea what's wrong with it. He just bought this car about 7 months ago, it was used but it's a newer car so it shouldn't be having major problems already. Hopefully whatever is wrong is an easy (and inexpensive) fix. This is just what we need, another unexpected expense! And of course this would happen in the middle of winter, on the week we're supposed to have nonstop rain! My partner is not going to be happy walking back and forth to work in the cold rain until the car gets fixed.

Thank you, I hope not either. Sometimes it seems like the universe just hates us.

Oh no, that's miserable. I would be lost if not for my dad. He is good with cars, and when it's above his pay grade he has a friend who can fix cars. I just wouldn't know who to trust when it comes to getting cars fixed.

That's our problem, we never know where to take the car. His former mechanic, who he went to for years, retired a few years ago and the son took over the business, but he's not as good (or as professional... Seems like he doesn't care about keeping clients happy.) So that place lost our business, but now we don't know who else is dependable around here.

No, he just said it was shaking and the check engine light kept flashing. He literally knows nothing about cars, even though he works at an auto parts warehouse.

Sorry to hear the new year started in a. not so good way. Hope it gets fixed and hope the problem isn't that serious at all.
