Iceland pledges to eradicate gender pay gap

Do you know that Iceland has become the first nation in the world to make it illegal to pay men more than women. The law has come into effect from 1st Jan,2018. The country has pledged to eradicate gender pay gap by the year 2022. I must say that it's a bold and excellent move by Iceland government and I hope that other countries also get inspired and follow suit.

It will lead to more unequality still. Companies will start to just underpay everyone.

I don't think so...with new recruitments, it might be possible but not with existing employees.

@Plethos I would prefer looking at the bigger picture and long term effects. And companies will keep laying off people on one pretext or the other. It happens all the time.

@swalia - but a company can just use the current lowest wage of an employee as the new high and phase out higher salaried people with "restructuring".
