Surely, most of you have heard about the numerous men in Hollywood/New York who have been sexually harassing women for many years. Oprah gave a speech at the Golden Globes touching on that. As a result, many think she is the answer to helping women, and should be our next president. Singer Seal indicated that Oprah knew all along what was going on with these victimized women and Harvey Weinstein. He sees her as being part of the problem. What do you think?

It seems like several powerful women like Oprah and Meryl Streep knew of Harvey Weinstein's behavior, or rumors of his behavior even before 2000. If they would have spoken out back then there is no doubt in my mind people would have taken them seriously. However, I can't say they are definitively part of the problem because as powerful as they are, Harvey Weinstein might have even been more powerful. They might not have wanted to take on a fight they weren't sure they could win.
That being said, they still worked with him while still hearing the rumors. They could have stayed quiet, just simply chosen not to associate with him. But it benefited them to have that partnership. They probably comforted themselves by telling themselves they were just rumors, and they shouldn't let rumors get in the way.
So are they part of the problem? I wouldn't say they were really part of the problem. Women have had it trained in their brain not to rock the power boat. But it irked me, all the women wearing black to the Golden Globes. Where was this support when Dylan Darrow spoke out about Woody Allen? Or Rose McGowan years ago making allegations against Weinstein? No one asked them to take on a crusade. But a simple "I believe you" would have gone far.
I just have a hard time blaming a woman for letting a bad man's behavior continue when they weren't responsible for it in the first place.

Each woman responds differently to this kind of behavior from a man. However, to act like you didn't know it was happening all these years and come out smelling like you would make a great president because of a speech possibly written by an excellent writer does not impress me. None of this is new. These women know it. Woody Allen got a slap on the wrist...if that. It seems that some powerful women don't speak up until it is popular to do so.

@MsBooklover Nobody spoke out against Bill Clinton either. None of the big names that is. You are so right. Out of the blue it is suddenly popular to stand up for women. Oprah is just as unqualified for the Presidency as Trump is. And that's certainly not going well.

@AmbiePam It is unbelievable that someone such as Bill Clinton could be President of the USA and do what he did and still be making money for speeches, etc. Why would people want to pay money to listen to him speak about anything? How can one focus on what he is saying, knowing what he did in the White House? Yet, it seemed to be no big deal. The only people who spoke against him were the victims. Nobody of authority really spoke up for women then. Why? It just was not popular. It is also almost like when you are in school and someone is alone...and they really are not fond of you. They may leave you alone....but the more friends they have with them, the more you are likely to go down. With the latest scandal, one by one....women joined....more and more.....and it became popular to speak out...and then others said to themselves....I see an opportunity here. I think I will be on this side now because this is going to get me somewhere. Suddenly, I want to be a part of the Me, too group. I would not be surprised if Oprah was voted in as President of the USA. However, I think afterward that a lot of people would be sorry.
