Do beauty pageants make objects out of women?

I see nothing wrong with a competition between women for goals, accomplishments, and talent. However, I think it is very degrading for women to prance around in bathing suits to be judged for their figure. As many women as there are today who are complaining about being used, and sexually harassed, and being judged for qualities that are not professional, notice how many women line up to be in the pagents today. Even small children are being subjected to this. Somehow, the amount of money and power that one can win makes this treatment acceptable. It is OK if thousands of men and women ogle them in an audience and on TV. However, when they go to work and an their boss does it, it is harassment. Really? What's the problem? No enough power and money involved? You cannot have it both ways.

If adult women want to compete in pageants, I really don't care. But I do object to the pageants for little girls. Years ago, my husband's niece's daughter was in one. She was about six years old and we watched the video of the dance. She had on a Mae West type of costume and they danced like they were strippers. I was appalled.

@MsBooklover It teaches children to try to be sexy at that age! I couldn't believe her mom thought it was great. Pedophiles love it and it's so very dangerous.

@1creekgirl Yes, that is a big thing for pedophiles. It has been happening for years now. The age of children is getting younger where they try to act older.

True, it's either okay or it is not. Shouldn't work both ways but that is the world we live in. All about the money...sad.

Women need to decide which side they are on.
