It is thought that there was a settlement in the area where the city of Honolulu now stands as early as the 12th century. Captain William Brown from Great Britain was the first foreigner to sail into today’s Honolulu Port in 1795. Soon the port became the main port for merchant ships traveling between North America and Asia. In 1845 Kamehameha III relocated the permanent capital of the Hawaiian Kingdom from Lahaina on Maui to Honolulu. Soon the capital became the center of commerce in the islands and descendants of American missionaries began establishing major businesses in downtown Honolulu. Honolulu became the largest city, the main airport, and seaport of the Hawaiian Islands. As modern air travel developed it brought 7.6 million visitors annually to the Islands. The city is ranked 29th worldwide in quality of living. Tourists love the swaying palms and great beaches. They go to see the volcanic Diamond Head crater and the sites relating to the attack on Pearl Harbor including the USS Arizona Memorial. Have you ever been to Honolulu? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honolulu

My very first visit to Hawaii was Oahu. I stayed in Waikiki Beach where I walked out onto the sandy beach. I took the Brave Heart tour that picked up at the hotel and we first went to Pearl Harbor then to the cemeteries, ate lunch on base and a museum. I have since gone to Maui twice and Kauai. I want to go back to Oahu and take my oldest who has never been to Hawaii. My other kids have.

@RasmaSandra My favorite island is Kauai. It's beautiful, more quiet and less touristy.
