Thanks to the quick thinking on two maintenance employees at a nursing home in Crown Point Indiana, a mixed Labrador Retriever named Chiquita was rescued by a firefighter this morning. Keith Boersma answered the emergency call to retrieve a female dog who fell into an icy pond that could not get out on her own power. Boersma then put on his winter uniform to enter the pond and rescue the female dog before she would have expired due to the cold and wet conditions in the pond. After the rescue mission was finished, Chiquita was taken to a local animal hospital where she reunited with her owner who was looking for his lost dog. The grateful owner of Chiquita rewarded the firefighters at the fire station by buying them a pizza as a way of giving thanks to the firefighters for rescuing his dog.

I love these kind of stories. Here our firefighters love pets as well and always try to rescue them during building fires and likewise.

That is why firefighters are real heroes to risk their lives to assist people in need.

I'm so glad that Chiquita didn't die, in the ice cold pond! Thank God, those firefighters rescued her:)

@Deepizzaguy After a very short while, she would have drowned.

@Deepizzaguy Yes, hypothermia would have killed her, for sure.
