Why Schools / Colleges Are Becoming Criminal Dens?

It has become more or less inevitable to see at least a news in News Paper or watch it on TV where we come across some or other sort of crime being committed in School or College! Either Student is killing another student, Student is killing his/her teacher, Student is being raped by staff or other worker in the school, Principle is being killed by staff or student.....this way the list goes on increasing. I thought it is prevalent only in India but when I have done little research I came to know that this has become a global activity and more or less prevailing in every country with varied grades of intensity. Now, I really fail to understand why this type of attitude has developed in schools and colleges now a days? These schools and colleges have been on run for some decades now , some are more than 100 tears old and then they had no problems at all? Influence of Mass media and life styles of the people has made this difference in the educational institutes? Please respond!
