The volunteering spirit

I will like to start by describing how happy I am that I received an sms alert from my bank that the 2500 naira that was taken from me during an online transaction has been refunded. I was at the bank today to check on the status of my account. It has been frozen for 3 weeks because the bank says it has to send its staff to verify my address. Today it was unfrozen.
Now to the topic of this discussion: volunteering. Have you noticed that fewer people want to volunteer these days? I was at a function when a call was made for volunteers. Only children raised up their hands. I think volunteering is a noble think. It is a giving of yourself to help a cause without asking for a monetary reward. That's divine. Volunteers are team players. They add value to people's lives. I've found myself volunteering several times. I can say I enjoyed myself all the time. If you can't volunteer your energy and time, volunteer your resources.
What do you have to say about volunteering?

I've volunteered many times. I taught reading in our local public school, served as secretary for an international organization, was a member of another international organization, and most recently raised money for domestic abuse. My husband and I donate to meaningful charities on a regular basis.
Glad your money was unfrozen.

I have volunteered at church, but that was several years ago before my health got bad. I tried to volunteer to be a Big Sister years ago too, but they said I was too sick for them to be sure I could be dependable. I went in for an interview, and I paid for them to do a background check on me, so it was a bummer.

You come out as a god fearing person. That is good in this age of faithlessness. I know that God will be smiling with favor on the spirit you have shown to want to volunteer even though you were not accepted because of your health. Don't give up.
