I have been curious about this. What can people actually buy with food stamps? They can buy candy but not vitamins or cleaning supplies. Then they wonder why so many people who are getting food stamps live in dirty homes. They cannot buy cleaning supplies. I am not saying that if they could buy cleaning supplies with food stamps, that they would them. That is truly and individual decision, but I think they should be able to do so.

Foodstamps is just that. For food, including candy, and drinks. Not household things like cleaning supplies, toilet paper, plates, etc.

@MsBooklover yes, some people do. But they never would be able to get it with foodstamps. If anything, they'd be able to get it if they got cash assistance. But not everyone can get that either. Here, we have a paper pantry. Which is like the food pantries, but for paper towels toilet paper, tooth brushes and paste. Tissues. Not much of each but something.

That is true, but from what I hear from people have a hard time affording toilet paper.

Are you sure they can buy candy? I have no idea. I am on food stamps, but have not tried to buy candy. They make you watch a video on what you can and cannot buy, and they tell you to buy fresh, healthy foods. Of course they can't make you. Here is what is off to me: you can buy soda with food stamps, but not a fully cooked chicken from the deli. I mean it's fine to prevent someone from buying something from the deli, of course. But paying for soda is odd.

Yes, you can buy candy. Its considered food. Same as drinks, like soda. Some stores you can get those deli chickens with it. Others you can't.

@Courtlynn Wow. I wonder why the chicken is banned if candy is ok. It's healthier, and the same cost as the regular, raw chicken (at least in my store it is).

It may be different by state. I read that you cannot buy a deli hot chicken. From what I read, you can buy candy. If you can buy candy and soda, you should be able to get deli hot chicken. I also think they should give out cleaning supplies. Rent is very expensive today. People cannot take out money from the funds they give them for cleaning supplies, cough drops, etc. There will be nothing left.

It should be the other way around.

Food stamps are called Food stamps for a reason. They are medicine stamps, or household stamps. They are for FOOD.
