Now we come to 1979, the year I joined the Navy. Neither the Navy or I have been the same since! Here's another one of those songs that was a big, big hit that year. Fear not, I'll get back to the things you've never heard of soon enough. Meanwhile, here's the song I picked for 1979. 1979 (Pop): Heart of Glass - Blondie People who bought the album Parallel Lines thinking it was a "disco" album, based on this song, were hopefully snapped into reality (and some good music). Yes, this song definitely had a "disco" feel, but it was hardly how you'd classify Blondie (especially evident if you watch the live version linked below). The band came out of the New York CBGB's "punk" scene that gave us acts like Television and Ramones, as well as the equally musically eclectic Talking Heads. This started Blondie's superstardom and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame career on its way. Other #1 hits would follow (such as "Rapture" and "The Tide is High"). Nearly 40 years later (I just realized that Debbie Harry is 72 years old now!!!), this stands as a classic in rock and roll, pop, new wave, "disco," and just about everything else. Heart of Glass Written by Debbie Harry and Chris Stein Recorded by Blondie From Parallel Lines, 1979 #1 for one week It was a gas (superb live version here):

I just did a search of hits for 1979 and it's huge with so much great songs!!! But one that I like is Too Much Heaven by the Bee Gees. I had a difficult time choosing just one hit for 1979. There's My Shirona, I like to watch Monk on Hallmark Mysteries Channel so I like the song too. Sad Eyes by The Knack is right up there for favorites among others.

It was easy for me to pass the Bee Gees songs. I got sick of hearing them back then.

This song reminds me of my last year of elementary school - particularly the long bus ride to and from school when the bus driver blared the music to drown our noise out . I loved "Rapture" and remember buying the 45 of it!
