Have you ever tried to do the genealogy for your family? How far back were you able to trace?
I started doing ours a few years ago. I was able to go back 5 generations on my father's side, but got absolutely nowhere on my mother's side - I can't even find a record of her birth. I did, however, find some very interesting snippets about my father's family.
In the end I gave up because to pursue it any further I would have had to start spending money on it.

I've done a bit of research, but haven't in awhile.

I have been pursuing genealogy off and on for the past 15 or so years. I have managed to trace my dad's family across the Atlantic to Germany where they are originally from, and so far have gone back seven generations (4th great-grandparents). My mother's family came to this country (I'm in the US) a bit before my father's, so in that regard, her family tree has been a bit easier to come by. I think I've managed to go back eight or nine generations on some branches of hers.

Hi Lynn, Yes, I have been doing family trees for a few years. Since I met my birth parents in 2005 when I was 45 years old, I was so happy to know who I came from I wanted to find out the names of my grandparents, great grandparents and everyone I could find! I have thousands of ancestors on my tree now on Ancestry.com. It’s easier to find records from my father’s Italian side but not my mother’s Croatian/Hungarian side. There’s a nice group of Italian genealogy people who helped me find records at ItalianGenealogy.com. I got as far back as my 8th great grandfather on my father’s father’s side.
I also made a tree for the family that adopted me, since I know all about them. And I made another tree for my husband. He never met his birth father but he has his last name, and I found tons of his ancestors. We also had DNA tests done. It’s amazing how many relatives we have!

I hadn't set any particular target, I just wanted to go back as far as possible.

So far, I only met until the second degree. There are still relatives I havent met as some where there in the province area and some who are first degree cousins were never introduced to us as they are results of outside marriage relationships.
