Anyone else hear this on the news? Apparently Craigslist, one of the largest posting communities, took away its personal ads section to combat human trafficking. Or maybe less altruistically to cover their liability if one of their ads turned out to be trafficking.
I normally dont post on news stories but this one caught my attention. I have in the past perused a few of their personal pages. They had different sections, such as Strictly Platonic and Missed Connections. The platonic forum had helped me out when i needed to interview a psychologist for a school project one year. The Missed Connections were always an interesting read. Often it would be someone trying to reach out to a high school crush or someone they met briefly but never got contact info.
Anyway that is besides the point. I have mixed feelings on Craigslist completely closing down their personal ads. For those that use it innocently its too bad. For human traffickers I guess they will have to head to backpages or wherever else they go.
What do you think about this?
Link to the story (not a referral link!):
The website said that the bill, which removes protections from liability for facilitating trafficking, made it too risky to maintain its personal ads.

I have read and heard about this reputation of Craiglist when it comes to human trafficking. In my opinion, it is just their way of preventing any future damage on their reputation.

@maezee and that too they can actually pull a string on it. They can even make a fortune out of that.

I used to love looking through the Missed Connections section seeing all the funny things people posted. Some were pretty funny; some were pretty desperate; and some were outright creepy. But they usually gave me a good laugh.
