What do you think? Should they? Do you think they need it as much as a woman or less?

Here in Canada either parent can take the parental leave. Or they can split it.

@MsBooklover they get paid by the government for a year. (may be increasing). It is not a lot, but it is nice. Some companies pay something to, but not most.

Of course I think men should get paid paternity leave. As it will be too difficult and tiring for women to take care of new born babies alone, especially when they don't have others to help.

why not? So the husband can give a hand in taking care of the baby.

Paternity leave is meant for women. Not for men, because men are responsible for this paternity leave. Anyway nobody should expect pay if they don't want to attend duty. Should we...?think it from your point of view. Even if you are a good boss will you give money to a person if he is not doing anything? It's great to be a self teacher of our own. That's best defines about our innerness.

In the USA, paid maternity leave is called a fringe benefit.

@MsBooklover Ok, its actually a good decision by government. They want to make sure that ladies don't feel burdened by this leave. Maternity leave is essential and if government provides compensation to ladies for it then that's the greatness of your country. I think Paternity leave should only be given if the husband is working in the same company along with wife. Again it should be given with the permission of wives because this leave also indirectly belongs to them.

@prakashj256 I think the government only pays for it if you work for the government.

If they are legally married to the woman who is giving birth, I would agree to it.

I think it would be a very nice thing for the family to spend time together.

I think that women have the baby they should probably get longer leave. Unless, the man is planning to be the custodial parent, he doesn't need as much leave as his wife.

Yes of course and there is paid paternity leave for men. They need bonding time just as much as a woman. Maybe they do not need the entire x amount of months off but at least 4 weeks.

i can see it as possible, for maybe a week, but will he and the family be able to take the pay cut? i believe its either no pay or up to 60% of a regular work week.

Absolutely not. When I had my kids, fathers arranged to have all or part of their holidays at the time when their wives were due to give birth. What's stopping today's lot from doing the same?
