I love Christmas. A few years ago I was stressed about having so much to do, and my daughter said I hate this, I would rather not have any gifts than see you stressed.
So we decided to have a totally gift free christmas. It was fabulous. Now we do have gifts, but we keep them small, and the deal is if you are stressed, have no money, or simply cannot be bothered still come as its your company we cherish, not the gifts you bring.
It changed the way we all look at Christmas.

This year we are making a donation to a charity instead of spending gobs of money on gifts we really dont want or need. My husband brought home a great catalogue yesterday for donations where you can buy things like an eye examination or vaccination for a child. We are aiming to buy a goat :) I think it is www.tear.com.au

Oh that's awesome! I envy you, I really do, we told everyone this year no gifts were to be expected from us except for the children and not much there because we're buying a house and that's using everything we can save. But I feel guilty. When I was a kid, we were lucky to get anything at all. I came out of it okay I think. I hate all the greed.

The worst thing about Christmas for me is that it seems we never have quite enough money for gift buying. It seems that something always comes up to take whatever extra money we may have, and it's always so disappointing to have to postpone Christmas morning to some day in January.

Too commercial - really it's become a glorification of greed I think. I hate shopping at the best of times but Christmas shopping is the worst. All mine will be done online this year. However I am looking forward to Christmas because it's my grandaughter's first so will be special this year.

I don't have a problem with that but I miss some of the people who have passed away

I hate the fact that it has become so commercialised!!! I seem to spend a lot of time telling the kids that santa won't be bringing everything they ask for. And then feeling guilty because he won't be bringing everything they ask for. The end of the year is also very busy here in Australia as the children finish the school year and have 6 weeks holiday over the christmas break.

The worst thing for me is to see my mom get hurt because my brothers won't attend anything if the other one is going to be there. All my mom wants is the whole family together once a year and of course, the brothers have to be stubborn. They will regret it one day!

I hate to say it, but money issues are the worst thing about the Christmas season. There is so much to buy and so little money to buy it with. Plus, I hate having to figure out whose family we do things with and when.

I don't like the commercialism and greedyness. It's supposed to be a special time, now it's just a pain in the rear.
