While a serious question by one of my colleagues was being thought of for the best possible response by the case presenters, the students in the front row suddenly covered their nasal cavities and started to fan themselves vigorously. The audio-visual nursing room was air-conditioned so all windows and the door were closed. I asked in a very loud voice, “What is happening? What is your answer to the question of Miss Cata?” Even the presenters who were standing covered their noses as well, then somebody replied to me, “Ma’am somebody farted!” It is so odorous, they all said. Surprisingly, the odor did not reach the 3 of us because we sat at the back. Then, we clinical preceptors gave our insights about farting. ”Don’t you know that farting is good for the body?”, “You will be relieved of abdominal distention”, “You will live a longer life”, “Has anybody among you smelt a fragrant fart?” Many more comments were spoken out by the 3 of us. And we were really fortunate to not have smelled the fart of one student who was unidentifiable by the class. I remember, the old term for farting is flatulating. Flatulence is the medical term of fart.
