Remembering a Great Young Man

April 4, 3 years ago, was gonna be a really big day. I was kicking off my Biblical counseling ministry that morning. We were having a ladies' Bible study at my home that morning with my husband and a couple of his friends serving us breakfast. Then that afternoon we would be having a shrimp boil with all our family and friends to celebrate my husband's 47th birthday. I remember so clearly, it was about an hour before the Bible study was to start and I got a call from one of the ladies who was to attend. All I heard was crying and shouting "he's dead, he's dead". It took me a minute or two to get her to tell me who she was talking about. She said, "David's dead; he's gone". We canceled all the events of the day and took off to the hospital. Sure enough, this precious young man who I had taught for years in church, who had been a friend to my kids, who had married my daughter's best friend was gone. David was a police officer and on his way to a call to help an older couple who were being robbed at knife point, he was struck by an 18 wheeler and killed instantly. He left behind a young wife and 1 year old baby girl. So many lives changed that day, but none more than his wife and parents. Today is bittersweet for us. As we celebrate my husband's birthday, we still mourn the loss of David. He will forever be loved and missed.
Life is uncertain. Make sure to always tell your loved ones how much you care, better yet, show them.
I think we take for granted the sacrifices others make to keep us safe and protect our freedoms. I support law enforcement, pray for them, and thank them for their service. I especially thank those spouses, children, parents, and siblings who have lost their loved ones while they protect us.
