Dear friends,
Many of you are aware about the benefits of Ragi powder. Ragi powder is using for making baby food mainly in our state as it is filled with essential nutrients. For small babies, we used to make its porridge adding milk and sugar or any substitute of sugar. It is easy to make. Generally we do not use ragi powder for elders because its taste is not so good. However, I learnt a new technique and decided to experiment the same and it was a great success.
I added, grated carrot, beetroot and coconut to the powder, mixed it well then steamed it. I also made Bengal gram as curry as side dish. Result was amazing children loved the taste and happily taken the same to school.
Today, new academic year is starting in school for my younger son.
Have you done any experiments with cooking?

Cooked ragi along with some rice tastes fantastic with Mutton and chicken curry! I recently few months back tasted at my friends place when I went to Hyderabad! It is light for the stomach and can be easily digested also as there is more fiber content in it! Just give a try when ever you get a chance! Nice to know @Sreekala that you have experimented with the ragi and your children liked it! Thanks!

You mean cook ragi as whole? It needs some additions for sure to avoid the bad taste.
Children loved and now they are back from school and prefer to eat the left over of this at lunch instead of rice.
The secret, my hubby never likes beetroot, he consumed this food without even knowing I added beetroot with this.

All of us treated it as a baby product then opt out. Its taste is not good that is the reason. But adding carrot , beetroot and coconut the taste is different. The proportion is 1 glass of ragi powder, one 1 glass of carrot and beetroot (grated) plus little bit of coconut. No need to addd water, the water from carrot and beetroot is enough to give the moisture.

I'm not much into steaming foods, takes a lot of gas on it. Hope you had a good meal.
