Day 3 Zechariah 3 Zechariah 3:1 And he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him. 2 And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan; even the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire? 3 Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel. 4 And he answered and spoke unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment. 5 And I said, Let them set a fair mitre upon his head. So they set a fair mitre upon his head, and clothed him with garments. And the angel of the LORD stood by. 6 And the angel of the LORD protested unto Joshua, saying, 7 Thus says the LORD of hosts; If thou wilt walk in my ways, and if thou wilt keep my charge, then thou shalt also judge my house, and shalt also keep my courts, and I will give thee places to walk among these that stand by. 8 Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee: for they are men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the BRANCH. 9 For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes: behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, says the LORD of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day. 10 In that day, says the LORD of hosts, shall ye call every man his neighbor under the vine and under the fig tree. Everyone, from the smallest child to the oldest person living, is a sinner. We all do things we shouldn’t, and we stand before God in filthy garments. The Angel of the LORD stood before Joshua the high priest and told those standing near to take away the filthy garments and give him clean garments, and he went one step further. He rebuked Satan and told him Joshua was a brand plucked from the fire. As Christians, Jesus took your filthy rags, and changed them to robes of righteousness. He took your sin and nailed it to the cross, so that he can present you to the Father. Jesus confronted Satan and told him, you are a child of the living God, and he had no power over you any longer. The Angel of the LORD told Joshua, he would bring forth the BRANCH, and a stone with seven eyes. The BRANCH is the Lord Jesus Christ, your Savior. The stone with seven eyes, is the Holy Spirit who sees everything, and leads you in the way you should go. The Angel of the LORD also told Joshua, he would remove his iniquity in one day. Jesus did that. In one day, on the cross, Jesus took your sin away. He also told those nearby to put a mitre on his head. The mitre represents the knowledge of God, given to him by the Holy Spirit. Then the Angel of the LORD told Joshua, he would bring Israel out of captivity in one day, and they would sit under their vine and fig tree. Israel did leave their captivity. They returned home and did sit under their vine and fig tree. As Christians, you know Jesus is the vine, and you are the branches. When you sit under the vine, you learn and grow, and one day you will join the fig tree – Israel, and you will be one before God. It will happen in one day: the day Jesus returns for his people. Let’s pray: Father, thank you for sending your Son, Jesus, to take my sin from me, nailing it to the cross, and clothing me in robes of righteousness. Thank you for your Holy Spirit, who teaches me what I need to know, and guides me through this life. Help me wait for the day when Jesus returns for his people, and casts Satan from my life forever. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. Copyright © 9 April 2018 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay
