Johnny Sauter: Could be Headed to Nextel Cup Series

The stars appear to have lined up perfectly for Sauter to drive Robert Yates Racing's No. 88 Ford Fusion in the Nextel Cup Series next season, cnnsi.com reports. Sauter has the inside track to the only car without a driver in the top 35 in the Nextel Cup owner points, guaranteeing a position in the Daytona 500 and the next four races in 2007. Recommendation: Sauter raced well in the Busch Series this season and he is competing with Ricky Rudd for the No. 88 seat. Rudd doesn't want to race full-time so Sauter may wind-up with the ride unless Rudd changes his mind.
