My younger son lives on the Gold Coast, around 2000 kms from me. He and his lady have a full house, with their own adult daughter still at home and 3 small foster kids, so I can't stay with them when I go up to visit. In the past I have stayed with a friend who lives fairly close to them, but she has been very ill, so when I go up later this year I don't want to bother her. This means that I have to find somewhere to stay if I want to visit my son and his family. As those of you who follow me know, I regularly do house/pet sitting for my friends in the local area, so I thought, Why not extend that for a holiday? I have signed up with a housesitting site. It costs $84 to join, which is less than it would cost for one night of accommodation in a hotel, and then you simply find a listing that suits you and apply to be their sitter. House sits can be anything from a few days to several months, and for that time you have free accommodation whilst the homeowner has someone looking after his/her home and pets. A real win/win situation.
