Favorite "Color" Bands #1 - Blue Oyster Cult

Hopefully, this countdown of my favorite bands with a color in their name added a bit of color to your life, even if a lot of the bands utilize the color "black." We have reached #1: Blue Oyster Cult.
Hard rocking Blue Oyster Cult, led by vocalist/guitarist Eric Bloom and vocalist/guitarist Buck Dharma (Donald Roeser,) formed in Long Island, New York, in 1967.
Although best known for their 1976 hit, "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" (a tune that is now legendary thanks to the classic Christopher Walken Saturday Night Live "More Cowbell" sketch in which it was featured,) Blue Oyster Cult has released an extremely strong catalog of albums and singles over the years. Before rock radio started playing the same 25 songs everyday, odds are that you heard BOC songs such as "Godzilla," "Cities on Flame with Rock and Roll," Burnin' for You," "Shooting Shark," and "Take Me Away" on the airwaves at some point.
The band reportedly was originally not enamored of the name "Blue Oyster Cult," which was taken from a poem written by manager Sandy Pearlman in the 1960's (Blue Oyster Cult being a group of aliens in the poem.) Luckily, the name stuck.
(Fun Fact: I once got a high five from Eric Bloom before the encore at a BOC show that I attended. An easy high five to get, considering that I was leaning on the stage right in front of him.)
Let the "more cowbell" comments begin!

That's the beauty of music. It would be boring if everyone liked the same thing.
