The Gavel Came Down...

As I lay sleeping, I began to dream Of riches and gold, that no one has seen I met a judge, with gavel in hand Wondering who appointed, this mysterious man He spoke with authority, like I've never heard Yet there was a gentleness, with each spoken word I introduced myself, and asked for the same He began to tell me, His majestic name I'm God, He said...and I've heard your cry Asking me questions, wondering why There is so much pain, and tears to be shed You've often told Me, that you wish you were dead Your anger; your bitterness; has flooded the gates To such a point, you are filled with self hate The loneliness; the fear; the anguish of heart You plead endlessly, for a brand new start I'm turning the tables now, with gavel in hand And passing it to you, at your command You're taking My place, as I step down Now as a judge, you'll be wearing my gown I'll grant you three wishes, to change anything you may You'll have until tomorrow; until the end of the day In wonderment, I had to think this through Making sure I knew, exactly what to do If I were God, my first wish would be To remove sickness from all, including me To have so much fun, and be full of joy Like an innocent child, with a brand new toy If I were God, here's wish number two We could speak to our loved ones, when we're feeling blue From beyond the grave, one by one They'd be waiting our call, on speakerphone If I were God, my third wish would give To all who were homeless, a permanent place to live No more hunger; no more cold; and no more heat They'll live in comfort, instead of the street When i was done, my gavel came down with great force Everything I've declared, will now be enforced I looked to God, and said: Here you go You can now have back, your gavel, and robe He then gazed at me, with tears in His eyes And took those things, as He passed me by Then turned back to me, and said: My child can't you see? I've already granted those wishes, you've asked of Me For I have prepared a place, to all who want to come The mat has been rolled out, to welcome you home It's just in a world, you haven't visited yet But the table is ready, and the place settings are set Waiting for your arrival, when the time is right From earth to heaven, you'll take that last flight Where health will be restored, and they'll be no more pain You're joy and laughter, will be restored again Your friends and loved ones, will do a meet and greet And you'll skip through the fields, with dance in your feet The home you're longing for...has been prepared with great care It's more wonderful than you can imagine, or possibly dare To believe it can be real; makes it hard to wait It's difficult to imagine, this wonderful state Then the alarm rings, and I gently awaken And began to wonder, if I might have been sadly mistaken Of the things I've experienced in that slumberous wonder It no doubt, gave me a lot to ponder Then a peace within, brought a smile, instead of frown It's all real...said God, as the gavel came down Written By: Teresa Trotter ...
