Favorite "Of" Bands #6 - Machines of Loving Grace

Despite having a major allergy attack this morning, I must continue the mission, as we say in the Army. We are at #6 in my countdown of my favorite bands with "of" in their name: Machines of Loving Grace. Machines of Loving Grace were an industrial rock band that formed in Tucson, Arizona, in 1989, lasting until 1997. They are best known for their contribution to the soundtrack for the movie The Crow, "Golgotha Tenement Blues." Despite a couple of videos that received heavy rotation on MTV, the band really never got the recognition they deserved, due in part to problems with their record label, a major factor in their breakup. The group took their name from a poem by Richard Brautigan, "All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace." Instead of sending them back into the studio, Mammoth Records released their demo as was for their debut album, a sign of things to come. In 1993, I saw Machines of Loving Grace open for My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult. They were one of the best opening acts I've ever seen, so tight, so powerful, that they did the seemingly impossible. They made one of my favorite bands seem boring.
