The Colorado Avalanche took a 3-0 lead into the first intermission and held on for the win, beating the Nashville Predators 5-3 in game three of the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Nashville leads the series 2-1. Nathan MacKinnon scored twice, including the game winner, in a feisty, chippy game. The Avalanche controlled most of the contest, and withstood intense third period pressure by Nashville for the victory. The Avalanche have played well in the series, for a young team with very little playoff experience, and it was nice to finally get a win against the defending Western Conference Champions. The Av's, however, do need to figure out the Predators' aggressive penalty kill, and have to start winning crucial faceoffs. Colorado goals were scored by Blake Comeau (assists by Soderberg, Nieto,) Gabriel Bourque (Nemeth, Compher,) Nathan MacKinnon (Landeskog, Rantanen,) MacKinnon (Landeskog,) Gabriel Landeskog (Empty Net) (Rantanen, Barberio.) Nashville goals by Ryan Johansen (5 on 3) (Forsberg, Ellis,) Colton Sissons (Josi, Ellis,) Austin Watson (6 on 5) (unassisted.) Game four is Wednesday night in Denver.
Nathan MacKinnon converted on a breakaway goal against Pekka Rinne to give the Avalanche a commanding 3-0 lead in Game 3 against the Predators.
