The 9/11 Tapes: Chaos In The Sky

There are at least thirty documentaries about the audio portion of the 9/11 attacks. This one is par for the course and about 85% of it is rehashed from the official tapes released right before the official 9/11 report was released. There are a few interactions that I never heard before so it was worth watching This also includes the “phantom 11” mix up and the 'official' order to use deadly force to bring down any airplanes that do not respond to air traffic controllers. This is only a small portion of the audio recordings, if you want to listen to them all you will need about 90 hours if not more. You are started off right before American 11 loses contact and it ends with the crash into the Pentagon. There is a smooth flow to how the information is presented but keep in ind this is only a small portion of what was happening. 8:09 am: Boston Center makes contact with American 11 8:14 am: Boston Center tries to contact American 11 with a direction change. 8:19 am: The first call from American 11 comes in from Betty Ong with information about a stabbing and possible release of tear gas. Call is disconnected 53 seconds later. 8:24 am The next contact with American 11 is from the cockpit with a short message about the plane returning to the airport. This was the first solid indication that this is a terrorist act. 8:33 am: Dan Bueno of Boston Center contacts Otis in regards to dispatching fighters to reclaim the plane. 8:39 am: Otis and NEADS are both in contact with Boston Center about the hijacking. At this point they are only tracking one plane but are not sure of the exact location because the cockpit deactivated their signal / transponder. 8:46 am: Otis is finally given the clear to head towards New York City; they still have no exact location of the flight. This is where the tone and energy changes on the audio recordings. Less than three minutes after learning about American 11, United 175 loses contact with air traffic control. 9:03 am: United 175 hits the World Trade Center; from listening to the tapes you learn how the ATC knew about 30 seconds in advance of the impact. 9:10 am: Reports come in the American 11 is on it's way to Washington. This was part of a huge miscommunication about American 11 and American 77. Chances are the general public would have never known about this unless the tapes were released under the Freedom of Information Act. 9:17 am: United 77 is officially labeled as a positive hijacking. 9:34 am: United 93 goes rogue and turns at Cleveland to return to the east coast. 9:36 am: Fighters are given the clearance to go supersonic to cut off the plane headed for the White House. It did not reach it's destination but rather crashed into the Pentagon. Every timestamp above has at least 30 seconds of audio attached to it. This was originally aired on Discovery. It is not rated but any swears has been bleeped out. It does not show any of the destruction of the World Trade Center buildings outside of the initial crashes.
