My Piano Playing Mother

My mom taught me how to play the piano. She always loved music. She played the organ, piano, and guitar. She sang and played in church. She led the youth choir in church. Now she doesn't care for church or music. Dementia has taken a toll on her mind and behavior. The above picture was taken about 3 years ago. I miss seeing her at the piano. I am still praying for a miracle. Its all I can do.

So sad when illness takes over talent.

@gnatsmom I would join you in praying for her and for a miracle to happen, hope that one day she would be able to use her talents again for his glory, you are right, that is the only thing we can do.

If you get her to the piano, can the "automatic" part of her brain (the cerebellum) still help her play some of her old melodies?

It could. But she has lost all interest. All she wants to do is sit in her room and eat. She went through intense physical therapy last summer and for the first time in 10 years she is getting around without a walker or wheel chair, but she refuses to leave the room and get out and walk or socialize.

@Chazzygal They let me come to the facility she is in and play the piano in the dining room. I usually end up with several listeners. They love it and so do I.
