Play it Again, Sam. It's a two part discussion, an original song followed by a cover of that very tune. We are at #45a, the original: "This Wheel's on Fire" by Bob Dylan. Way back in 1967, Bob Dylan and Rick Danko, bassist for The Band, were working together, when Dylan showed up with the lyrics for "This Wheel's on Fire." Danko worked out the basic music on piano, some of which he had already written, which he and Dylan then finished together. While Dylan waited until 1975 to release his version, on his album, The Basement Tapes, The Band put their version on their classic 1968 album, Music from the Big Pink. Neither Dylan or The Band released the song as a single, but the tune was a live staple for both acts, including Band members performing solo. "This Wheel's on Fire" has been covered multiple times, which I'll discuss in the "b" part of this discussion. In the meantime, enjoy a great live version by Bob Dylan.
