Mentioning a really short song title automatically puts my mind into thinking about long song titles. So, in conjunction with the "short song title" countdown, I'm also doing a countdown of songs with at least seven words in the title. Here's the next song on the list. #6: I Can't Believe That You Would Fall for All the Crap in This Song - Sparks Somehow I can't help but thinking this is a swipe at Cheap Trick's "I Want You to Want Me." I guess it's due to the fact that this album also includes a song called "Lighten Up, Morrissey." (The video is hilarious.) But it doesn't matter: it's typical Sparks. If you're not familiar with this band, I don't know how you've missed 'em. They've only been around since 1974 or so. Well, to be fair, they haven't really had a major hit in the US. The closest thing was "Cool Places," which featured Go-Go Jane Wiedlin, that got a lot of notice because of the popularity of the Go-Go's at the time. For those who aren't familiar, these guys are nuts. Brothers Ron and Russell Mael front Sparks, with Russell an enthusiastic front man and Ron almost a mannequin behind the keyboards. On the album covers, Ron is usually the brunt of jokes (such as Sparks in Outer Space where Ron took a pie to the face, or Angst in My Pants with Ron dressed up as the bride [complete with his Chaplin mustache] to Russell's groom). Their music is a lot of fun, and usually quite funny. This is a prime example: a promotion of devotion ("I need you and only you and only you, my love), followed by the admonition that it's a big lie (the title is the chorus). Fun and funny -- that's Sparks! I Can't Believe That You Would Fall for All the Crap in This Song Written by Ron Mael and Russell Mael Recorded by Sparks From Exotic Creatures of the Deep, 2008 And only you, and only you (and watch at the beginning, you'll see Ron -- gasp -- SMILE!!!):

Ron seems stoic and frozen but it's all in his darting eyes.

Watching Ron is a hoot. Remember that McCartney video where he mimicked Ron?

WHOO HOOO! There used to be a great punk band from Denver called Warlock Pinchers. They had a funny song, that I can't use here, called "Morrissey Rides a (rhymes with "rock") horse."
