What makes one a bully: Reason 3
Reason 3: Parents Create Bullies Through Enabling Bad Behavior
Has anyone ever seen parents scurrying and scrambling to pacify a child throwing a temper tantrum? Or have you seen a parent cry helplessly because of disrespectful or aggressive child? When parents jump at their child's every whim, spend money or serve to keep a child from acting out, and/or just ignore bad behavior; they are contributing to the making of a bully. The child begins to think they are superior or entitled and they will begin to bully their parents, as well as others. "And here’s the worst part: the longer a parent surrenders to the temper tantrums, threats and manipulations, the harder it is to break these bullying tendencies. As parents cede power, children grow more aggressive." (Grover, 2015).
As with most childhood dysfunctions, the problem begins at home. Therefore, so does the solution. In a later post, we will explore these solutions.
