I am sure that there are those of you out there who remember a popular detective series from the 1970s that starred two handsome actors David Soul and Paul Michael Glaser. That is the reason behind the heading here because one of these actors David Soul has a number one hit with “Don’t Give Up On Us Baby” on April 16, 1977. It was ten years earlier that Soul started considering a career in music. In 1967 he was a folk singer but because of his blond hair and handsome Scandinavian look audiences were noticing him more often than listening to what he was singing. Therefore Soul came up with a gimmick and became known as “The Covered Man”. He made 25 appearances on the Merv Griffin Show playing the guitar and wearing a wool ski mask to cover his face. Soon people came to realize that this was a gimmick and a serious act and not just some comedy skit. Soon Soul thought it was safe to take off the mask and once he did both Griffin and the audience lost all interest in him. Soul was lucky that a talent scout saw the unmasking and shipped him right out to California to take acting and karate lessons. He became a popular TV detective and ten years down the line also came out with a number one pop single. However even though he sang many more songs and came out with five albums but he never made it to the top when it came to popularity. Many years later he relocated to the U.K and became a British citizen but kept his American citizenship. Who remembers David Soul? What do you think of his singing?

I am so old that I remember David Soul on Here Comes the Brides and Bobby Sherman was his brother.

One of my favorite shows before Bobby Sherman became a teen idol. Too bad Soul didn't have such luck at least for a while @JohnRoberts
