Smoked Fish for Packed Lunch

I've been trying to reduce my kids' consumption of processed foods. They normally bring cured meats and commercially processed foods to school for lunch as they're the easiest to prepare. But since last year, I've been introducing them to homecooked and nutritious dishes that they can easily eat when in school. Never mind if I have to put in extra time and effort in preparing their lunches. I think what's important is that I get to wean them from processed foods over time. My eldest hardly eats hotdogs, bacon or ham now. She now prefers other dishes that we would usually eat for dinner. Her latest addition to her own menu is the smoked boneless milkfish. She really loves it and would ask me to prepare it at least once a week. So I now make sure to get a pack of smoked milkfish every time I shop for groceries. Both my girls finish their lunches when they have this with rice. So thankful that they can now appreciate this type of packed lunch. Do you eat smoked fish? Image from Pixabay

@Happy2BeMe Great! I think smoked herring is more common in N. America. Here we usually have smoked milkfish.

I hope you get to try it and like it! Smoked salmon, for example, is great for sandwiches and salads.

Oh yes, I love smoked fish too. Especially that one the boneless milkfish. It's so delicious dipped in slices of tomatoes with a crushed Thail Chili. I would usually eat it with my clean bare hands. But it gets me to eat more rice though.

Yes, it does. What I really like about it is that the fishy smell is hardly there once it's been smoked to perfection. In other countries, there are specific types of wood to use for smoking meat and fish.

Oh I love smoked salmon. They can be quite pricey here though because we don't have them in our waters. Yes, I'm trying hard to transition my kids to a healthier diet in school.

Fish that is not fried is full of protein and low in carbs.A good thing for me to eat because I am on a low carb diet.

That's very good to know, Aunt Bling. We try to have most of our fish smoked or stewed instead of fried.
