Can a layman do this?

Can a layman , perform social service in any type of monastry if possible ? I would live to do such a type of social service.

I suppose you could but I think that the first assignments you would assigned to would be cleaning toilets, taking care of older monks etc. But the best way to find out is to do what Silvermist suggests!
