Do you read the labels? I do.
Not always, though. But, I was rinsing the empty can that had evaporated milk inside and on the label was a recipe to make Walnut Fudge, a Creamy Fudge that uses basic ingredients. But if I had ignored that label I would have missed out.
I copied that recipe on a page in my wife's recipe book that she is adding new recipes that she comes across in magazines, in recipe books at the library and some we get online. Mostly, I find it a good thing, a pleasant surprise, to find a recipe about creamy fudge, on the label of a can of evaporated milk.
Do you find recipes you like on the labels of the many food products that you buy in the store?
It is even possible to open a candy bar wrapper and read that inside of the wrapper there might be a code to enter in a sweepstakes. It's all part of marketing but if we ignore the labels we loose the opportunity to find some rare treats like the recipe I found today, on a can of evaporated milk.
I mainly will look for high quality and detailed recipes at a site called Allrecipes.com
But landolakes has a very good 5 star rated recipe for a walnut fudge that is out of this world.
take a look at it.

Once in awhile I will make a recipe I find on food products. My roomie just showed me a fudge kit that comes with chocolate chips and evaporated milk.

That sounds like something I would like to have. They should sell those fudge kits in every store. In fact I wish I had one now. I am craving fudge so badly I can't contain my self.

My chocolate chip cookie recipe is from the back of the chocolate chip bag. I usually just read the bag when making cookies

@lookatdesktop It depends on how long you bake them. We dont bake full time it calls for so that they stay softer longer

@wolfgirl569 , I like two types of fudge, the kind that is basically so rich and sugary that it melts in your mouth. But the other is more like the one in the recipe.

It's a good thing to find recipes on those labels. Glad you had a chance to try out that chocolate chip cookie recipe. Were they chewy or crunchy cookies?

@lookatdesktop Thanks! I like the old time recipes, they are more wholesome then boxed things. I need more time to start cooking from scratch again. I do it all all year except for school time. Cant figure out how to get more time in a day. lol

I value family recipes most. They are rare and unique and can be older than time. I mean, think about what our great great great great grand parents might have passed down through the generations is something you can't find in modern day recipe books. I will give you a link that is a good one about family recipes .
Passed down from generation to generation, these family recipes are tried-and-true favorites that we still love today. From classic cakes and cookies to comforting dinners, soups and sides, find traditional dishes—and the reader stories behind them&m

This is good. We tend to ignore the labels, and I would advise everyone read them if for nothing but learning the ingredients we are about to put in our bodies the calories, the salt, fat, sugar and the additives. The recipes are sometimes worth the effort it takes to take a pen to paper and copy them down. Usually, the product is merely promoting itself but that isn't such a bad idea for marketing value.

I tried to cook instant pudding once and it was a mess. You don't cook n ' serve instant. But I should have read the details.

A good recipe is a good recipe to have handy, as we all have those cravings and nobody likes having to spend 30 minutes hunting for it in a file cabinet or indexed in a 200 page cook book.

@lookatdesktop Haha but sometimes if she likes the recipe she won't keep it anymore because she already knows how to cook it. But for me, I prefer searching it on Youtube.

@lookatdesktop I'm not familiar with Danno but it's kind of amazing creating fudge for 5 minutes. Have you tried it?

Aldi sells canned evaporated milk and they put recipes on their labels.
Baker's Corner is the product. Here is a link to Aldi's Instacart site.

@lookatdesktop I have their baking cocoa powder and baking soda. But not evaporated milk. I would have to find it next weekend when I go.

@KristenH Some recipes call for evaporated milk while other recipes call for using the sweet condensed milk that is more like a creamy fudge. and you can sweeten coffee with that but it must be added sparingly as to not make coffee too rich.

I love fudge and I have actually seen the recipe on the side of a can but it was on the can of condensed milk I have. My mom used this recipe for fudge. Chocolate chips, vanilla extract, a pinch of salt, and a can of condensed milk. Simple and so delicious. I usually make it at Christmas time. I have even used different flavors of extract such as orange and almond. Both are very tasty.

Yes, you can play around with recipes and come up a fresh and new flavor all your own.
