A bit of a rarity is the focus of today's "original" portion of Play it Again, Sam, a two part discussion, an original song followed by a cover of that song. This thing is flying right along. We are at #39a: "Room Full of Mirrors" by Jimi Hendrix.
"Room Full of Mirrors" was an unfinished song that Hendrix had been working on with his Band of Gypsy's (Billy Cox on bass and drummer Buddy Miles.). The song was never released until it was included on a 1971 posthumous compilation, Rainbow Bridge, which was compromised of material that the guitarist had composed after the breakup of The Jimi Hendrix Experience. The songs were never approved by Hendrix for release.
Hendrix did, apparently, play the tune often in concert, however. There are several live versions available on You Tube. In fact, live versions are all that are available on You Tube, none of which are of particularly good quality. I've linked to a 1970 performance at the old Los Angeles Forum.
There is a band out there, with exquisite taste in covers, that did a fantastic job on the rare track.
Stay tuned!

To everyone's dismay, I don't "get" Jimi Hendrix. But then, at that time I was listening to Don Rich play guitar almost exclusively.
A slight genre difference there.

You have me on this one as I never heard it before. I will be surprised by the cover.
