Some Children Of Addicts Make The Same Mistake And Become Addicts Themselves

Their are people, while growing up, see one or both of their parents destroy their lives by abusing and becoming addicted to illegal drugs and/or alcohol. But then some of them, as they get older, make the same exact mistake! They become addicted to drugs and/or booze, just like their parents. You would think that, by seeing their parents ruin their lives by becoming addicts, that they wouldn't want to make the same mistake. Yet they make the same mistake. Why is that?

One of my friends did the same thing and her oldest son became addicted and she acted like she did not know why. I wondered if she was really that stupid.

They have a very bad examples. Some would learn in life that they have to get out of those addictions, sooner or later if it is not too late yet.

Because children see their parents as their idols and they unknowingly start adore them and their habits....some times they end up with benefits but some times as you said they may end up with dangerous situation like an addiction! Thanks @MainerMikeBrown !

In my sister in law's family, that has happened. The husband was an addict and a scam artist. One of the sons followed his footsteps unfortunately.
