The city is imploding

I wish I could claim things “getting back to normal” around here meant a lack of murders in my city but unfortunately that’s not the case. Just in the past hour, two people were shot downtown right outside Busch Stadium. That is the ballpark where the St. Louis Cardinals play. There wasn’t a home game today but that entire area is always full of people and doubly so on weekends. There is a large area of restaurants and bars, a large garden area, the historic old courthouse where the Dredd Scott decision took place, and it’s just a few block walk to the Arch grounds. That is THE place to plop yourself in the middle of to experience St. Louis. I’m not sure about the one shooting victim but the police were reporting the second was shot in the head and unresponsive...never good signs. That is how bad things are here lately, you can’t even go out to a hugely populated city center and feel like things will be okay. (That area is also saturated with the city’s finest men and women in blue by the way). I have no desire to ever leave St. Louis but if things keep up this way I could end up changing my opinion sometime in the future.

St Louis does have a bad reputation for crime and it has been stated going to a Cards game is dangerous.

I believe it is like that in most big cities. Before I moved to Latvia I grew up in NYC now my hometown has murders and attacks most days but you can also live very well and enjoy life as long as you know where you can go and where not to go and as they say keep your nose clean. Now I am moving back to the US this summer and even though NYC is too expensive for my move right now and I will be heading for Florida I will still want to visit or consider going to my hometown at some other time. Hope that things settle down in St. Louis. Stay safe and look out for yourself and your loved ones.
