How often do you see dead bodies?

....of the animal kind. I see them all the time. In fact, there is a whole mess of deer parts I have to clear out of the field before the grass grows too high... but I'm waiting until the scavengers clean the flesh off the bones a little more before I pick it up. I don't like handling gooey remains! One of my old teachers has a trail camera focused on deer carcasses that he has the game commissioner bring in, and films what eats it over time. Since last year, he has captured the following animals chowing down: bear, coyotes, bobcats, and a bald eagle. Of course, the turkey vultures come in later and clean it up, and then it's time for the next body!

I work on a slaughter house that kills sheeps and horses. The sheeps are delivered to the lamb eaters in the US and Canada while the horse meat is delivered to Quebec and Mexico.

@CaptAlbertWhisker They're still horses? I just did a search and it said that there was a horsemeat scandal, but that was resolved. It sounds likely that it was never resolved in the first place.

I'm not a sheep eater. I have an allergy to lamb (meat allergies are uncommon, but at least it's not one of the main meats!). I would feel bad for the horses I had growing up to eat one.

I saw a red tailed hawk once with a gray squirrel in its talons. It was actually quite majestic.

@minx267 Ever since I heard that story of a park ranger getting killed by a Great Horned Owl when he was wearing a raccoon skin hat, I never wanted to make my head into a target!

Oh my! Well, we live in the suburbs, so we don't see those kinds of wild animals period. But I do see the occasional road kill . . . usually an opossum or squirrel, but sometimes a cat.

The cycle of nature, what a beautiful sight! Living in an urban environment, I see pigeons. I usually tell the people I'm with "look, a pigeon is sleeping", even if only feathers were left. What's the field for?

@OneOfMany I know how hay works. How do you know horses don't like bones? You had any experience?

@sabtraversa Well, it depends on the animal. Cows will eat chickens from time to time, but I have never seen a horse do it.

It's a hay field. The grass grows, we cut it, let it dry, then tether, rake, and bale it. Generally, horses don't like bones in their meals. It's a pigeon eat pigeon world out there!

Well, in the case of people, that's a different story. It's tough seeing someone you know lifeless.
