2018 will likely have the most expensive summer driving season in years -- filling up the tank will cost 14% more than last summer. As if prices were not high enough.. And so much difference from state to state due to taxes. maybe they should tax other things .. and lower taxes on the one thing we use the most.. What a shame.. Take public transportation. Cheaper..

Gas prices here are also rising here. Better to walk instead than ride public transportation.

@kayshope Yes, I think it is. Within 4 kms it is Php 12 and then Php1 for every kilometer I think. I am not sure anymore.

That is thanks to the California Governor. After all, he is like my Home Owner's Association, we gotta make money, lots of money no matter who we hurt! He's been busily hurting the low income people and trying to make the state into a high class wealthy person state.
I haven't been to Thermal ever, but I know here in Paso we have some public transportation but not enough. And where I live out by Lake Nacimiento there is NO public transportation at all so we have to drive ourselves into town when we need something. Like today I need to go to the clinic and I hate to ask Bill, my boyfriend, to take me because I work tomorrow. The money I earn from my half day's work will go to pay him for his fuel. But by upping the taxes on fuel they can claim that the California economy is improving.

@kayshope Ours have been creeping steadily higher. Our roads stink here too, there is a section of road on highway 101 that has been torn out and being replaced. It was cement and still in pretty good shape, but the highway department just had to tear it out and replace it with asphalt. The cement was about 6 inches thick and looking at the pieces that are piled up they had a heck of a time tearing it out too.
I wonder if they plan to recycle all that cement. They could really use it to repair other sections of highways that are in horrible shape. The cement in our area really has held up better than most anything else that they have used for roads.

I find it expensive to fill my car up with petrol in the UK. It can be £25 to £30 a time. It gets busy at the petrol station. People can choose to pay at the petrol pump or in the small shop. I like to pay in the shop and use my reward card for points. Rarely at the supermarket it will give me a docket for extra points. When my son has a medical appointment I like to have the journey by public transport like a train which takes 20 minutes. It has advantages because it doesn't get stuck in busy traffic like a car can do. It doesn't need a parking space like my car would. There are hardly any places to park at the children's hospital.

We get extra killed on taxes here in California and our crumbling highways that somehow there is no money to fix.

Doesn't it make you wonder whose pocket the money goes into? It sure doesn't go into our existing roads and the necessary repairs. Maybe we need to demand an outside audit.

Botswana's public transport is pants! I tried to stick with it but it's the worst I've ever known, very unreliable and extortionate!!! I decided to learn how to drive and bought myself a little runaround. It's amazing how much money I'm saving and how much easier my life is. Even with the soaring fuel price, I'm better off driving than using taxis here.
