With social media being what it is, it was an eventual happening that (basically) someone would take “The Blair Witch” and update it with a cyber format. There are more than a few horror / gore / slasher films based on the evils of the internet and what can happen when you let your guard down.
“Unfriended” revolves around semi-popular high-schoolers who are setting up plans for their prom. During a group chat (via Skype) someone without a profile, photo or name joins the chat. With no way to kick them out of the chat room they decide to disconnect and rejoin chat. As you might have guessed, that didn't work.
The plot is almost moronic – there's almost nothing original about the film. Aside fro that, it's hard to watch because of the 'jumpiness' of the computer screens in the chat rooms and the excessive amount of typed text. Every single character 'over acts' and tries too hard to push the “cool high school clique” and any personality that the director and producer planned to wedge into the male characters comes off as egotistical and childish. Even the gore / killings are sloppy.
There are a lot of other social media slasher / horror movies out there so it's perfectly fine to skip this one without worrying about missing anything.

I do not like the Blair Witch "captured footage" formula.
