Day 26
Matthew 12:1-21
Matthew 12:1 At that time Jesus went on the sabbath day through the corn; and his disciples were hungry, and began to pluck the ears of corn, and to eat.
2 But when the Pharisees saw it, they said unto him, Behold, thy disciples do that which is not lawful to do upon the sabbath day.
3 But he said unto them, Have ye not read what David did, when he was hungry, and they that were with him;
4 How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the showbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests?
5 Or have ye not read in the law, how that on the sabbath days the priests in the temple profane the sabbath, and are blameless?
6 But I say unto you, That in this place is one greater than the temple.
7 But if ye had known what this means, I will have mercy, and not sacrifice, ye would not have condemned the guiltless.
8 For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.
9 And when he was departed thence, he went into their synagogue:
10 And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? That they might accuse him.
11 And he said unto them, What man shall there be among you, that shall have one sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the sabbath day, will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?
12 How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on the sabbath days.
13 Then said he to the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it forth; and it was restored whole, like as the other.
14 Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him.
15 But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from thence: and great multitudes followed him, and he healed them all;
16 And charged them that they should not make him known:
17 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,
18 Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall show judgment to the Gentiles.
19 He shall not strive, nor cry; neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets.
20 A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory.
21 And in his name shall the Gentiles trust.
Many times, no matter what you do, right or wrong, you stand accused by your peers. People want to find fault with you and will go to great lengths to do so.
Jesus and his disciples were hungry, so they ate. It was lawful to go through the fields and pick corn, as long as you ate what you picked. You could not harvest another man’s field or your own on the sabbath day. Neither Jesus, nor his disciples broke any law. However, the Pharisees had added to the law of Moses, making it unlawful to do any kind of work on the sabbath. So, then, when he went into the synagogue, and questioned him regarding healing on the sabbath, Jesus showed by their law, how even they were compassionate on the sabbath to take care of their property. Jesus told the Pharisees and the people who he was when he told them the Son of man had authority even on the sabbath. It was that statement for which the Pharisees wanted to destroy him. He told them he was their Messiah.
Matthew showed he was their Messiah through the prophet Isaiah.
Isaiah 42:1 Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delights; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.
2 He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.
3 A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.
4 He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.
As Christians, you know everything Jesus did, was to show his authority as the Son of man, the son of God, Messiah. You also know it was because he claimed to be their Messiah, the Pharisees sought to destroy him.
If Jesus had not died, you would not have the authority Jesus gave to all those who believe on him. You would be dead in your trespasses and sins, with no hope of salvation. However, Jesus did die. Jesus did take your sins on himself on the cross, and Jesus did heal all sickness and disease with the stripes on his back.
Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spoke unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
Ephesians 2:4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
7 That in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
When you accept Jesus as Savior and Lord, you have the power, the authority to do what Jesus did.
John 14:12 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believes on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
Let’s pray: Father, help me be what you said I would be, a person of authority and power according to your Word because I accepted your Son, Jesus, as my Savior and Lord. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

All Jewish food is kosher. They have very strict laws regarding clean and unclean food. Have a blessed day.
