Genealogy is leaving me with a lot of questions

Between my husband's family and my family, I have definitely been busy. I recently found a close cousin that I can't figure out how we are related. It's odd that neither of us can find an exact connection considering how close it has us. We don't even really recognize any names in each other's trees. I keep wondering if we are somehow double related and that's why we can't figure this out. Maybe it's just making it look like we are closer related than we actually are but I won't know anything for sure until we get more information. It helps that we are both waiting for other family members DNA tests. We are hoping this will answer more questions. It's amazing what kind of information you can find out about your family. This has been an interesting journey but I do kind of look forward to having more answers. I just find it odd that this test says we are close cousins but we don't even recognize surnames from each other's trees. It's just baffling to me. Genealogy often leaves a person with more questions than answers but it's the most amazing feeling when things finally click. It can also give you a lot of false confidence and make you feel like you're a detective. I'm getting pretty good at some of it but am still figuring out other aspects of it.

My mother is obsessed with genealogy but it does not interest me.

It's not for everyone but I enjoy it.

The same thing has happened to me. A man that was adopted is my first cousin. I never heard of his mother. I have not been able to figure out the whole thing yet.

It can be difficult especially when the relative doesn't respond to your messages. I would probably be able to figure it out if the person would just respond to me. I know it has to be via someone on my MIL's mother's side because this person is also linked to my MIL's half sister via her mom. More than likely it's one of her mom's brothers children that they didn't know about. It's just figuring out which one.
