Are you aware of the Grandparent Scam?

Beware if you are a grandparent. Or if you know a grandparent, warn them about this. There is a scam going on where someone calls a grandparent on the phone and pretends to be their grandchild saying they are in jail and need money to get out. They say “Don’t tell my parents, just send the money.” My son’s grandfather got a call like this a couple years ago in the middle of the night and got out of bed and wired $1500.00 to these scammers! And I just heard from a friend of mine who is a grandmother that someone like this called her the other day. She was upset that she didn’t have the money to help her grandson. Thankfully she didn’t! It was a scam!

I've heard of this scam. A few years ago these scams happened here, too. Thankfully many newspaper and online magazine wrote about it.

That’s good. I guess they didn’t put it in our newspaper around here. They probably should!

@momalisa65 I think it helped a lot. They put it in the local free newspapers that older people also read. And I remember a story when the grandfather agreed to pay and the scammers went to his flat for the money. When they arrived there, the cops were waiting for them.

First time I've heard of this scam. Surely, the grandparent will alert the parents of the child right and no one will fall for this scam.

This happened to my mom a few years back over my son, thank goodness she called me to see if he was ok and I told her that was a scam. Now she hangs up on everyone.

@momalisa65 I was so thankful but she was so worried about him and they said he was in Canada and she knew he wouldn't be out of country so that was her first tip
