Lava is where?

Hi folks, I have been watching Hawaii like a hawk. There are 22 fissures as of last count and only a few are actually fountaining lava right now. The USGS says that the first batch of lava coming out of the first fissures was from the 1955 eruption, so it was somewhat viscous and even a bit chunky, having been stored deep underground in the East Rift Zone. The newer, fountaining flows, are hotter and more liquid, and they are what pushed the old lava from behind as Pu'u O'o and Kilauea main crater drained and sent lava underground. They know this because of the chemical composition of the lava as well as the heat and runniness. Isn't it interesting? But where is the huge quantity of lava that drained, and where did it go? They don't know, and it could come out anywhere along the rift zone or be stored for the next time! What have you learned so far about lava flows in the Big Island of Hawaii?
