On Recycling Containers To Freeze Leftovers

For as long as I can remember, my mother had a cupboard full of "margaine containers." Of course those containers oculd be from just about anything; sour cream, guacamole, etc. They were all about the same size, and they got used, too. Mom would freeze leftovers in them, or use them to take food to a neighbour, or to pack into our lunch boxes. They were great!

Years later I saw "disposable" plastic containers advertized by companies like Zip-Loc, and wondered WHY! Don't we all have leftover margarine containers? Why do we need to buy special disposable containers? My husband and I save containers, and now that we have a new chest freezer, we will be saving a lot more leftovers.

What do you think of buying disposable containers? Do you save your leftover "margarine containers?"

Oh, they're the BEST for leftovers. We make sure and label them before putting them in the freezer.

I have bought tupperware containers, but I also have empty margarine containers and sour cream containers that I use for leftovers. I want to replace all of my plastic tupperware with glass though, so I won't be using any more containers from Country Crock or Daisy.

I understand buying tupperware. Often those containers are specialized, and a lot bigger than margarine containers. Those things are great! Re-usable, and way too good to throw away, unless worn out after years and years of use. They're miles better than those cheaper plastic things that are made to be tossed out. Glass is also a good idea, and probably easier to wash

@danishcanadian I have even saved a lot of glass yogurt containers, of course those are what I will be pouring candle wax into. I'll be making candles and probably giving them away to friends.
Yes glass is definitely easier to keep clean. Plastic gets scratchy and stained over time.

In fact I was just talking about this with my helper here.It is important to get proper sized containers with lids which can be stored in the refrigerator in such a manner that it won't get over crowded. For that I also recycle the disposable containers what ever I get. Thanks!

I save leftover containers and use it for my meal prep. I use it for another two times and then I go ahead and dispose it.

No... I prefer to throw them away due to lack of space.

I definitely understand lack of space. We don't all have huge places to store them. Could they be repurposed some other way, or given to someone who could use them?
