On Reusing Disposable Water Bottles

Canada

In keeping with my thoughts on recycling, here's another one that's been on my mind. I see bottled water on sale by the case, and as single bottles in store fridges. I am very blessed to live in a part of Canada that has really good tap water. Not only because I don't have to pay for water (it's included in the cost of my rent) but because i don't have to constantly buy those little plastic bottles, and clog up the environment with that. That being said, i do buy them on a rare occasion, but when I do, I find a way to recycle them. -- Sometimes the store will give me a free bottle of water with my groceries, or I'll be at an event and buy one. Occasionally, I'll be shopping and become thirsty, and buy one. I probably acquire 15 new bottles of water in a year. The way I recycle them is to take the bottle home, fill it with tap water, and put it in my freezer. Those bottles are later used as "cooler packs," or to put on my night stand during a hot night, and I'll drink them as they melt. -- Today, for example, we were out of guacamole. There was a grocery store near Starbucks, so I decided to stop and get some on the way home. However, Starbucks was closer to the bus stop, so I wanted to go to the store first. Then there was the fact that i wanted to sit outside and enjoy my coffee, but I did not want the guacamole to get warm. Before I left for the store, I grabbed a frozen bottle of water out of the freezer, and stuck it in the pocket of my computer bag. When I got to the store I got my guacamole, and handed the ice bottle to the bagger to put in with it. it was a great way to keep the stuff cold! I also bought some candy bars to throw in there, since they weren't going to melt. --- Another time when I use these frozen bottles is when I pack our little cooler bag for a picnic. I will add a few cans of coke, maybe some more frozen bottles of water if we're not going to be near a tap, and some food such as cheeses, boiled eggs, margarine containers with dip, bread, crackers, and stuff. I like a rather gourmet picnic. I can be assured that between my cooler bag, and the frozen bottles within, all that stuff will stay cold, just as it would in the fridge. ----- Do you have a novel way of using disposable water bottles/ If so, what are they? If not, would you consider any of the ideas I've mentioned above?

I've never had any problems. In the greater scheme of things, it's not safe to use them AT ALL, because look what they do to the planet?

There are plastic bottles that can be used in gardening. It is a DIY way to recycle them.
