Day 41 Matthew 15:29-39 Matthew 15:29 And Jesus departed from thence, and came nigh unto the sea of Galilee; and went up into a mountain, and sat down there. 30 And great multitudes came unto him, having with them those that were lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus’ feet; and he healed them: 31 Insomuch that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel. 32 Then Jesus called his disciples unto him, and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way. 33 And his disciples say unto him, Whence should we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to fill so great a multitude? 34 And Jesus said unto them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven, and a few little fishes. 35 And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground. 36 And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and brake them, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. 37 And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets full. 38 And they that did eat were four thousand men, beside women and children. 39 And he sent away the multitude, and took ship, and came into the coasts of Magdala. When people hear about concerts or events they are interested in, they wait for the day tickets go on sale, so they will be the first to get them, they are even willing to stand in line waiting for that moment when the ticket window will open and they will get their tickets. Jesus was sought after because he could heal sickness and disease. He also taught them in a way the Pharisees didn’t, with authority, bringing God’s Word to them in a whole new way, showing them how much God their Father loved and cared for them. They sought him because he had compassion on them and showed that compassion by not only healing the body but feeding it as well. As Christians, you have the same access to the Father, through Jesus Christ. You have the same opportunities to learn, be fed, and healed. The same compassion Jesus had for the people who had been with him for three days, is the same compassion he has for you. You only need to reach out and ask, and he will give you what you need for your body and your soul. You don’t need to stand in any long lines or wait on your computer for the moment when he will reach out to you. He’s available all the time. He says to call on him and he will hear. Jeremiah 33:3 Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou know not. John 14:13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. (KJV) Yet in your asking, you need to be careful to ask for what is good for you and will glorify God. James 4:1 From whence come wars and fightings among you? Come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? 2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. 3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. 4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. 5 Do ye think that the scripture says in vain, The spirit that dwells in us lusts to envy? 6 But he gives more grace. Wherefore he said, God resists the proud, but gives grace unto the humble. Jesus wants to give you everything you desire, however, not everything you desire is good for you. Jesus had compassion on the people and fed them. He healed them. He taught them. Everything Jesus did brought glory to his Father. Everything he does for you, when you ask with right motives, will do the same: bring glory to the Father. When you hunger and thirst after God, he will fill you to overflowing. Jesus fed the multitude to overflowing. They had so much to eat with the few loaves and fishes, there were seven baskets full of food remnants remaining. Let God fill you to overflowing, so you have something to give to those who ask you. Let your desires be for God and his work in your life, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Let’s pray: Father, I need your touch on my life. I need your Word to fill me to overflowing, so I can reach those you bring my way with your Word. Help me be an overflowing vessel for you. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. Copyright © 30 May 2018 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay
