What is the point of “following” someone in mylot?

As far as I can see, following someone here in mylot does nothing except for informing the user that it has been followed. It is the same as if I do not follow that user. But then what is the point of clicking the “follow” button if it has no effect whatsoever?

I think the purpose of following someone is to know their newly posted discussions each day.
