Day 44
Matthew 16:24-28
Matthew 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
25 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.
26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
27 For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works.
28 Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.
How often do you deny yourselves anything? Many people have compulsive natures, doing or buying whatever strikes them at the moment.
Jesus told his disciples anyone who wanted to follow him, would find it a hard road to follow. However, in doing so, they would gain a lot more than they expected. True riches weren’t found in going after whatever their heart desired, but in doing the will of God. There was more harm in running after things, than running after God, where true riches lay.
As Christians, you know how hard it is to follow the straight and narrow road, to set aside hopes and dreams to do what God wills for your life. However, you also know, God is interested in your hopes and dreams, and when you do his will first, he will give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (KJV)
Mark 10:30 But he shall receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life. (KJV)
Luke 18:29 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children, for the kingdom of God’s sake,
30 Who shall not receive manifold more in this present time, and in the world to come life everlasting. (KJV)
Psalm 37:3 Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. (KJV)
God takes your wants and desires into account when you put all your trust and hope in him, putting him first in everything you do.
Then Jesus said, some of his disciples wouldn’t see death until they saw Jesus coming in his kingdom. I’m sure that gave the disciples something to think about.
Jesus didn’t say they wouldn’t die, but they would see him in all his glory. He didn’t say they would see him returning in the clouds, but he did say they would see him glorified by the Father.
Matthew 17:1 And after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, and brought them up into a high mountain apart,
2 And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light.
Peter had proclaimed him as the Son of God, and Jesus showed them his glory before his death, resurrection, and ascension into heaven.
As Christians, we wait for the day when Jesus returns in his glory, to bring us home to heaven. It won’t be temporary, but eternal.
Let’s pray: Father, help me seek you every day, wanting what you want for me. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

Thank you for this. This is so nice. Honestly, I seldom pray to ask something, but I often and always pray to give thanks. That is true. Even the tiniest thing for some, for me it is already a blessing. For example, me and my kids playing at the park and it feels like it will rain. Then me and the kids got home before the rain pour down. I whisper a simple prayer of giving thanks that we are already home and that my kids are safe.
